The Need for Web Safety Education

With the growing access and usability of the Internet, issues like Internet safety are becoming more and more of a concern. Youths are flocking to the Internet to stay socially active, entertained, cultured, and hyper-informed. However, the world wide web of countless resources has an underworld of predators and harmful material. The Internet is swarming with hackers, pedophiles, spammers, scammers, cyber bullies, virus threats, and offensive material.

The key to protecting youths online is to get informed and get involved. Reducing child victimization requires knowing the risks associated with the Internet, as well as Internet safety standards. Yet it is not uncommon to find parents and teachers who are unequipped to effectively approach web safety with children. Their approaches range anywhere from non-existent to archaic. Two predominant reasons for this include lack of computer literacy and lack of time required to learn about web safety on their own.

Kiwi Seminars, a non-profit organization, was created to respond to the apparent need for web safety education. We deliver free seminars to schools and local communities to educate parents, educators, and youths on safe and responsible use of the Internet.
